Wildlife
and Walking
Explore
our unspoilt grounds, there may be cattle or sheep grazing the pastures. Hunt
for sloes, wild damsons or hazelnuts in the hedgerows, harvest blackberries
and enjoy the abundance of wildlife. Rabbits galore, buzzards that soar the
thermals above the valley, ducks that dive, listen for the woodpeckers and
watch the tame geese who march to the lakes on their daily routine! We
provide maps and ideas for local walking, plus a comprehensive folder full
of What's On and the ' best places' to go. We are local owners with a
wealth of local knowledge to help you make the most of your stay. Enjoy
breathtaking views from the coastal footpath accessible from Highway Farm
and well worth the effort.
Bus no. 31 and the Jurassic bus no. 53 stop every hour right outside our
driveway covering from Exeter to Poole daily. It's a great way to discover
the coastal footpaths. Walk to Charmouth or Lyme Regis and catch the bus
back! If
you are planning a serious walk along The South West Coastal Footpath, you
may find this company helpful www.luggagetransfers.co.uk
and the SW Coastal Footpath Association www.swcp.org.uk Why
not stay with us for 3 or 4 nights and use the bus, we are happy to help
with your plans, Lyme Regis to Weymouth, not forgetting Portland!
Then you'll be in need of refreshment! Try our local Pub, the Ilchester
Arms, in the village of Symondsbury and a 15 minute walk from the farm.
Lovely traditional thatched pub with garden where you can enjoy a local
pint, good food, a huge open fire in the winter and a very warm welcome!
A
recommendation:
'We arrived at Highway Farm soaked to the bone but were met with a very warm
welcome. Pauline soon had our gear out to dry including putting our
boots on the aga which meant they were dry and warm the next day.
Highway Farm is easy to reach from the coast path and the Jurassic Coast bus
runs past the front door making it an ideal base for walking the south coast
path. Thanks again for looking after us'
